A letter from our President, Dave Dutton

May 2021

Dear Chittenden Dammers member,

I wish to reach out to thank you for being a member of the Chittenden Dammers and a very warm welcome to all of the new members that joined for the 2020-21 season. It has been quite a season and year overall! The challenges of the pandemic were felt by everyone and impacted our snowmobile season. With the limitations placed on snowmobiling, it was a different year and everyone rose to the challenge. Although the season began slightly late and ended slightly early, the available riding was spectacular with a wave of snow events keeping us in the game.

Also, I wish to highlight several exciting club events and projects. In lieu of the annual Dam Good Time dinner and silent auction, we conducted a sold-out raffle benefiting local small businesses, a local charity and our groomer fund. Many thanks to the raffle committee for their hard work in making it a success! This event aided our fundraising efforts toward the purchase of a new groomer. We have submitted applications for a USDA rural development grant as well as an equipment grant from VAST. Based on the outcome of these grant applications, a new groomer is a very strong possibility for next season thus ensuring continued safe and smooth riding in Chittenden.

In conjunction with other strategic partners, the club is also pursuing the development of a multiuse trail to Killington. An incredible potential addition to the current trail system, this project would provide snowmobile travel to businesses on the Killington access road for all to enjoy. The proposed project encompasses a main trail with feeder trails to local hotels, restaurants, fuel, etc. The club wishes to thank Rich McCoy, Doug Todd, Paul Racine and others for their time and effort toward this exciting opportunity.

Our club meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month beginning at 7 pm from September to May. Although this season’s meetings were held via Zoom, we anticipate resuming our monthly meetings in person at the Mountain Top Inn & Resort in Chittenden beginning in September. We hope you can join us if possible! Reminders will be posted via our social media. We have an incredible social media presence which we encourage you to visit, share and monitor for updates, trail conditions, special events and many other things!
