The Season Is Here But !!!

Opening day is Tuesday  we will be open on a limited basis .With all the heavy snow and lots of downed trees and limbs extreme caution is advised. It will take some time to clear the trails and get it in early season shape.

Here is a message that sums the situation up:

Hi everyone-

Opening day is approaching and this storm has hit everyone hard. I am sorry that with our staff of 3 (1 being me with crappy chainsaw skills at best)-we do not have extra hands to help clear all the trails. I have spoken with other (non-snowmobile) volunteer groups and have asked them to reach out and offer you their support if they are available this weekend. For now, please be aware that I have asked that the Forest Service and VAST issue a joint press release highlighting the following items:

· Due to the recent storm event, snowmobile trails have numerous blown down trees. Although volunteers are working to remove the trees, more may fall on trails thought to be clear.
· Not all trails may be open on December 16. Trails that have not been cleared of down trees may have closed gates and will not be open or groomed for the December 16th opening day…please respect trail closures as volunteers work hard to get them ready.
· Travel with caution when sight lines are limited, anticipate that new tree blow downs may be in the path ahead
· Tell others your itinerary and don’t rely on cell phones or other technology for emergencies…carry shovels and equipment that may be necessary should travel become difficult.
· Parking lots may not have been recently plowed.

Please keep me updated as to your progress or concerns. I am sorry that my home phone line is out along with our power so I am not available this weekend for calls.
