Exciting News!!

Trail Report – Jan 17, 2026

The Chittenden Dammers have opened many trails under caution this morning. Groomer operator Jonathan covered 43 miles overnight Friday to open as many trails as possible. We’re close to opening all our trails, as are clubs across the state, but Mother Nature has delayed this with a warm-up and some unfavorable precipitation. All three groomer operators—Kurt, Wyatt, and Jonathan—have been logging miles over the past several weeks to give our base the best chance against Mother Nature. Much of the state should receive snow today. If forecasts are right, many trails will be open for the weekend. Stay tuned for updates, as trail conditions may change in the next few days. We are hopeful!

Please note the following trail closures in our network:

• 75 up to North Pond is closed.

• 4/7 out to Rt4 is closed.

• The last part of 73 out to Gap Road is closed. The 73/73A loop is open.

Like us, many clubs are still dealing with trees and ice damage from previous storms. Some trail sections will remain closed until they’ve been checked and trees are cleared. Note that most trails shown on the map are yellow, which means exposed rocks, ice, thin cover, other hazards, and fair conditions at best. Caution is essential! Watch for downed trees and limbs along all trail sections. Always remember, no ice is safe ice. Trails along summer logging roads and Forest Service roads in higher elevations are your best options. Remember, trails shown as red on the map are still closed. Also, just because our trails might be open doesn’t mean neighboring clubs’ trails are. Be sure to update the VAST app and check trail status before heading out!
